Civic Centre sweep SFA youth prizes

POINT FORTIN CIVIC CENTRE swept three of the four divisions in Southern Football Association’s (SFA) youth competition. The “Black City” lads took home the lion share of prizes when the SFA hosted their prize-distribution ceremony to reward outstanding performers in the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 Divisions during the recently concluded 2003 season. They took top spot in the league and knockout series in the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 Divisions beating Gasparillo Youths 3-2 in the Under-13 league, and also squeezing them out in the knockout and Under-15 league competition. Moruga FC who were joint third with Siparia United among the Under-13s, were knocked off by  Civic Centre in the Under-15 knockout, while Princes Town Youths SS were runners-up to “Black City”  in both the Under-17 league and knockout.

In the Under-19 Division, Coffee Giants kept Petrotrin SC.P-a-P at bay as they captured the league title, with Dribblers Youths and Spitfire SA in joint third,  but Petrotrin would not be denied piece of silverware as they beat out Union/Claxton Bay Senior to the knockout title. Civic Centre continued to leave the mark on proceedings as they also took home a considerable share of the individual awards as their Under-15s  scored 35 goals to walk away with the “Most Goals Scored by a Team” trophy and also copped the “Club of the Year” award. Leading by example, coach Neville Fredericks took the “Coach of the Year” accolade, Sion Seller, Diron Smart and Akini Dailey all of Civic Centre were named “Most Outstanding Players” among the Under-13s, Under-15s and Under-17, while Timothy Bailey of Coffee Giants was “Most Outstanding Player” in the Under-19 Division.
