‘Grovie’ calls up 40 Under-17s

A SQUAD of 40 players will assemble at the Defence Force Grounds, Chaguaramas from 9 am today as preparations for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-17 qualifiers continue.

The players were chosen by the national U-17 technical staff, including coach Nigel Grovesnor, after a series of screening sessions in December. While a session has been scheduled for the sister isle Tobago, at a date to be determined, Grosvenor noted that, regarding the players shortlisted, there was obvious talent to be developed. “The screening went well and we still have to go Tobago because we need to get everyone involved,” he said. “We have seen some good talent but we are sort of weak on defenders because everyone wants to play midfield and forward.” “But other than that we have seen some talented players and now just actually looking forward to stating actually training.”

Among the players chosen were Aaron Downing of W Connection, the leading goalscorer in the inaugural Under-15 division of the T&T Pro League, teammate Kemuel Rivers, QRC midfielder Marvin James, schoolmate Kyle McIvor, Naparima’s Javed Mohammed, Kendall Penny of St Benedict’s and Silas Spann, son of Connection’s senior team coach Leroy Spann and brother of national U-23 captain Silvio Spann.
