Warner congratulates Antiguan club

The club is Antigua and Barbuda’s first professional football club.

Commenting on the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA’s) support in this move, CFU president Jack Warner stated, “I would like to commend the ABFA president and his executive for their continued commitment to the development of football in Antigua and Barbuda. This move ensures that you are one step closer to realising your goal of creating a professional league on home soil.”

The Antigua Barracuda FC will now join the Bermuda Hogges in the USL. “I wish your team all the best and I am confident the players will utilise all they learn in the upcoming months to develop football on the island,” said Warner.

“This is an ideal opportunity to showcase Caribbean talent,” he continued. “When our style is juxtaposed with the ideas this club will be exposed to in the USL, the result will undoubtedly be a fusion that will yield positive results for Antigua and Barbuda.

“In the end I am confident that this marriage will create a superior quality of football, a football which will be uniquely Caribbean flavoured.”

Warner hopes that this move by Antigua Barracuda will improve the quality and standard of the game in the Caribbean region.

“Our local and regional football leagues are integral in realising and materialising this objective,” he said. “It is only by taking our football to higher levels of competitions, exposing our elements, surging past our comfort zone, that we will create a superior level of football. This club is rich with history and I am confident the future will hold greater and better things.

“I must once again reiterate that as a region we must strive to create a higher level of competition on our shores, we must believe that one day our leagues will be as good or even better than the big names out there. Let us today start making meaningful steps to that goal,” he ended.
