No justice for my dead mother

THE EDITOR: I would like you to publish this letter in your newspaper. I think it is relevant given today’s accident rate. Three years ago, my mother was knocked down on the Priority Bus Route, near San Juan. The two vehicles, both insured, claimed no liabilities after knocking her down on the pavement. The driver of the ambulance did not have the testicular fortitude to apologise to the family up to this day. He was charged with man-slaughter and the police said they did not have enough evidence. My mother stayed in a coma for two weeks. I stayed quiet for the past three years awaiting justice up until now. I wrote to the former Attorney General but it was a waste of time. The DPP, the President of the country, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Sherman Mc Nicolls, and up to this date I cannot get a Coroner’s Inquest.

I have seen wealthy family members killed through accidents and they have received justice. Be that as it may. Many people do not know the law far less the constitution, and many insurance companies get away with ‘murder.’ I speak and write out since so many people have been killed without justice. The laws relating to accidents need to be amended. The law shows no sympathy far less any decent form of compensation for accident victims. Many families of victims die without getting justice. I beseech the families of accident victims to pressure ruthless insurance companies to treat victims with some level of humanity. I feel hurt every time I see an accident or victim die. Please drivers, use your brain while driving; let us have a pleasant 2004.
