Archaic treatment of Tobago by TBC, Trinis
THE EDITOR: New year, same old attitude! Tobagonians continue to be treated with scant courtesy by Trinidadians in many quarters. As of Boxing Day, we the Tobago cricketing public have been debarred from following the fortunes of our beleaguered yet beloved West Indies team? Why? Because Carnival is more important than cricket to the management of TBC network. So what do they do? They dedicate the Vibe CT 105FM frequency, the so-called sports leader solely toward Carnival. In the meantime, Sangeet 106FM has become the preferred frequency to broadcast the sport that unites the Caribbean. No problem if you’re in Trinidad, but if you are in Tobago and you are not close to a television you’ll have to wait until 7 pm to get an update on the game.
You see, 105 is the TBC’s sole national frequency, so switching coverage to 106 does nothing for us in Tobago since neither 106 nor 91.1FM (the other cricketing frequency) is well received anywhere in Tobago. The management of the TBC network will be advised to immediately rectify this untenable situation and be an exemplar of true national unity; that is if they care anything about out Trinbagonians. I eagerly await their response. Meanwhile, I would like to encourage our very own Radio Tambrin to step up to the plate, join the cricket commentary clan and rid us of this archaic treatment by Trinis who incessantly treat Tobago and Tobagonians as an afterthought. Let’s see what happens come next game.
