Foul play for local artistes

THE EDITOR: I am writing to express my feelings of disappointment and concern. I called a radio station and spoke to two different radio announcers to request “Down South Remix” by Rocky and Ghetto Flex, two of our local entertainers. I listened from 11 am until 7.50 pm that day hoping the song would be played but I guess I was hoping for a miracle. As I listened to each programme, songs released the same time as “Down South Remix” and afterwards were heard at least twice. I believe in supporting our local entertainers but it was evident that a select few are heavily rotated on the airwaves.

Every Carnival season the cycle continues. When will the corruption end? When will the time come when all our local soca artistes are given a fair chance? Imagine “one word” songs and songs of little or no substance are getting more air play than songs with value and essence. You would hope that if you requested a song from a local entertainer, one of our own, it would not be a problem. It really upset me and I truly understand the plight of some local entertainers, especially the ones who are trying their best to promote their names and aren’t given the opportunity — only empty promises.
