Racism in WARD’s words

THE EDITOR: With response to a letter to the Editor of Newsday newspaper dated: Wednesday January 7th, 2004. In which (WARD) Women Against Racism and Dictatorship was deeply offended by the way in which Denise Belfon wore the “sari,” totally points to racism and conflict. If the sari is worn in a Chutney Soca Mornarch, which I’ve seen on many occasions and many a people drunken and drugged stupor also partook and disgraced the sari then why is it a problem for others to dress up and dance in . It is the constant war on peace, racism spoken daily and the futile thinking of men that cause situations and create anamosity between other races.

On jugement day the sari is not what will save you but the heart of men, thoughts and salvation and the life we lived. Many calypsonians, have portrayed the sari in their calypso skits in years gone by, why does it offend now? Clearly this Kodak picture underlines racism. You should be proud that they wear and take part in your ethnic cultural attire for it’s all about unity mentally. When it comes to Carnival people of all religion, colour and race unite, some mas maker have even made costumes pertaining to the sari and India and people were on stage wining and dancing disgracefully. It just proves that we are not degrading or ashamed of being part of your culture, we embrace it.
