Solid Gold return on Saturday

Solid Gold, Trinidad and Tobago’s sole representative in last year’s Barbados Sandy Lane Gold Cup at the Garrison Savannah is set to make his first appearance on the local course since competing in the event. The Douglas Bennett inmate had been recuperating from injury since his failure in the 1800 contest on the anti-clockwise circuit last March 1. He is listed to start in the Allowance feature on the Arima Race Club, Day 2 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday. The American bred five-year-old, who racked up a double before flopping in  the event won in record time by Thardy Hill, has another tough  assignment in Saturday feature.

He will share the responsibility of toting the highweight of 56.5 kilos with Phantom Bidder and Morgan Heritage over 1725 metres on the Turf course.
Nicely in at the weights with the trio are Golden Honour and Carnival Messiah. Both seasoned campaigners have taken entry in the Tanglewood Stakes, and will be using the event as praparation before flying out to compete in the 2000 metres event on the Sandy Lane Gold Cup Day card on March 6. Golden Honour will have a pennystamp weight of 46.5 kilos on her back, while the 2001 triple crown winner has being asked to tote 49.5 in his saddlebag.. The Restricted Handicap is the supporting attraction on the nine-race card. It has a similar bunch and identical eight runners as the main event, but will be contested over 1800 metres on the main course. Champion apprentice Sheldon Rodrigo was the most sought after pilot for Saturday’s events. The youngster, who will wear his first riding crown at tomorrow’s Jetsam Award has a full slate of rides on the programme.
