Mucurapo smash Holy Faith n-ballers
MUCURAPO Junior Secondary (North) outplayed Holy Faith Convent (Central) 41-16 to register their second Group A victory in the finals of the British Gas Secondary Schools Netball League.
The Northerners took an 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter at the Central Indoor Sports Arena on Friday and never relinquished it. They held the “Convent Girls” to just two goals in the second session which they led 24-8, and they were ahead 30-13 at the three-quarter stage. National under-17 star Nariba Grant had 22 goals from 38 attempts and goal-shoot Anuola Camejo scored 19 of 26 for the Mucurapo girls. Andrea Kinsale got 12 goals from 21 attempts and Keverne Hunte four of eight for Holy Faith.
Diego Martin Junior Secondary (North), crushed in their opening Group B game, found their form to smash Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive (Central) 28-9 in the other game at the same venue. Goal-attack Asha McDowell netted 18 goals from 26 attempts, Lisa Headley got nine of 17 and Camille Alexis one of two for the Diego girls who pulled away after being held 4-4 at the end of the first quarter. They led 9-5 at the half and outscored their rivals 10-3 to lead 19-8 at the end of three quarters. For Carapichaima, Petula Clarke scored five goals from 12 attempts and Alana Thomassian got three of nine.
Action shifts to the Arima Arena on Monday when Toco Composite (East) take on Cedros Composite (South West), and Sangre Grande Educational Institute (East) meet San Fernando East Junior Secondary (South East). First pass is 1 pm.
