Police n-ballers ahead in Retro Division
VETERAN Police netballers have whipped Printery 30-24 in the new Retro Division (Over-40) in the All Sectors Netball League. The Policewomen never trailed in Monday’s match at the Jean Pierre Complex to surge into the lead. The Printery women held the Policewomen in check 7-7 at the end of the opening stanza and the teams were still deadlocked 13-13 at the halftime interval. But the Police defence allowed their opponents only five goals in the third period while scoring 10 to lead 23-18 at the whistle and went on to victory, the second in as many matches.
Goal-attack Beverly Rodgers scored 19 goals from 27 attempts, Althea McCollin had seven of 10 and Lynette Duncan got four of nine for Police, Jacqueline Morris got 13 of 21 and Elsa Clouden 11 of 14 for Printery. TSTT scored an exciting one-goal triumph over Fire in another match despite leading all the way. The “Hello Girls” led 8-3 at the end of the first period and 15-13 at the half despite being outscored 10-7. Fire continued to cut into the TSTT lead and were 22-20 adrift at the end of the third quarter. But the “Hello Girls” just managed to hold on for the victory. Goal-shoot Alison John scored 18 goals from 28 attempts, Wendy Sinette sank seven of 10 and Olive Le Platte had three of three to steer Police home. Cheryl Lewis had 14 goals from 23 attempts, Debra Alie scored 12 of 16 and Cheryl Lynn Semper had one of one for Fire.
