National Boxing Championships at Cosmic

COMMONWEALTH AND Pan-Am Games silver medallist Kerston Manswell is scheduled to oppose Guyanese Theophilus Blue in a friendly scrap on the final day of the National Boxing Championships. The three-day event, which has Dairy Distributors Limited as a part-sponsor, will be held from tomorrow until Saturday at both the Cosmic Boxing Gym, Marabella and the NUGFW Hall, Henry Street, Port of Spain. Details were given yesterday by Cecil Forde, vice-president of the Amateur Boxing Association at a media conference at Mas Camp Pub in Woodbrook, Port-of-Spain.

The first two days of action will be staged at Marabella from 8 o’clock each night while Saturday’s bouts will take place at the NUGFW facility from 4 pm. Manswell is currently preparing for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Also vying for a ticket to Greece is veteran pugilist Kirt Sinnette, and the southpaw will take to the ring on Saturday afternoon to trade punches with another Guyanese Mark Pierre. In all, 13 fights will be contested tomorrow, with a further 17 on Friday and 17 on Saturday, including the Sinnette and Manswell matchups.
