Game High sends a warning

GAME HIGH is yet to make his mark since being acquired by owner-trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj,  but if the manner in which he went through his paces on the exercise course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday is any indication of things to come, then his turn should not be far off. The bay seven-year-old bought out of the Chester Roberts stable late last year, was sent over the last 1000 metres of the main course and he stopped the clock at 1.03.29 seconds to be best on time for the distance. After increasing from the marker in the backstretch Game High maintained a steady clip and was full of running up the final stretch under champion apprentice Sheldon Rodrigo.

Maharaj used the morning to get a number of his runners in top condition for next raceday, January 31. Bon Voyage who is yet to make his debut this season stretched out well to cover 1200 metres in 1.18.82 seconds. Java Takeover who was the first to register a victory for the stable, famous for its green and white colours, is being prepared to go longer trips. This winner of the First Citizens Bank First Classic on opening day of the new season, went handily over 800 metres in 52.65 seconds. But the three-year-old daughter of Java In Flight/Indian Takeover’s time was bettered by Magen, who was all out in 49.45 seconds. Melanie My Love and Native Love went a brisk pace, while Sunday Jewel went much faster and was timed in 1.07.13 seconds over 1000 metres. Other bright spots on the morning came from Damon Ronwin and Smart And Lucky in their spin over 600 metres.
Damon Ronwin, which hails from trainer Jagdis Suratsingh stable, breezed the trip in 36.81 seconds and trainer John O’Brien’s charge went steadily in 40.80 seconds.
