Windwards post 203/9 off Guyana
ROSEAU: The Windward Island totalled 203 for nine wickets against Guyana yesterday, the first day of their third-round Carib Beer Series regional cricket clash at the Botanic Gardens.
Starting 85 minutes late after a rain delay, the Windwards went to bat and quickly lost the wickets of key opener Devon Smith and Romel Currency with only 17 runs on the board. Smith was the first to go, caught by Andre Percival off the bowling of Esuan Crandon for seven. The score was eight. Romel Currency was then caught by wicket-keeper Vishal Nagamootoo off the bowling of his brother Mahendra Nagamootoo for two runs. At lunch the score was 17 runs for one wicket. Returning after the interval, Roland Wilkinson and Lindon James brought the score to 83 before James went, caught Crandon off the bowling of Nagamootoo for 27.
The Windwards reached 135 for the loss of five wickets by tea, as Darren Sammy scored only four runs before he was caught by the wicket-keeper Vishal Nagamootoo off the bowling of Magarrel. The wicket by McGarrel, the Guyanese captain, brought his tally of wickets in West Indies first class cricket to 200. The Windward Islands entered the match with six points in the tournament, having won their first round match but losing the second. Guyana were without points after losing both previous rounds. “We are hopeful we will be able to come out of this with some match points,” Guyana manager Carl Moore said.
