Lessey stars at amateur boxing championships

THE national Amateur Boxing Championships got underway on Thursday at the Cosmic Boxing Gym in Marabella with four exciting bouts.

Organised by the Amateur Boxing Association of Trinidad and Tobago the boxers are gearing up for the upcoming Caribbean Championships scheduled to take place at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo over the Easter weekend. The national championships continued yesterday and will end tomorrow at the NUGFW Hall, Henry Street, Port-of-Spain.

Among the winners on Thursday night were flyweights Kryste Lessey of Phoenix who beat Carlene Lewis of Bulldogs. The referee stopped the contest one minute into the third and final round in favour of the impressive Lessey. And in another action-packed encounter Glenroy Anderson of Tigers defeated Nigel Edwards of Mandingo in the 175lb weight division. The judges ruled 2-1 in favour of the Port-of-Spain pugilist.
