Printery, Army netballers in exciting tie
GOVERNMENT PRINTERY and Defence Force played to an exciting 29-29 tie when action in the 14th edition of the All Sectors Netball League shifted to the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua.
And the thrills on Thursday did not end there, as Holiday Snacks just held off a fierce rally by Central Bank for a 39-38 victory in the other Alternative Y Division match. Defence Force had the lead at the end of the opening quarter 9-8, but the Printery girls were ahead at half-time 17-15. With Margaret Jack scoring 23 of 35 attempts, Candy Hazelwood sinking five of five and Cathy Ann Cain getting one of three, Printery held a slim 23-22 lead at the three-quarter period.
But Defence Force dug in and battled on behind 13 goals from 15 attempts from Kerlene Sylvester, 12 of 23 from Donna Chase and four of nine from Simone Edwards to knot up the scores at the final whistle.
Central Bank led their match until the half-time whistle 13-10 and 22-19, but Holiday Snacks took over 30-25 at the three-quarter stage and held on tenaciously for their one-goal victory, their first in three matches. Helen Curden scored 31 goals from 39 attempts and Marcia Daniel had eight of 13 for Snacks, while Kathy James got 36 goals from 44 attempts and Susan Squires two of two for the bank girls.
