Windies ‘B’ beat Leeward Islands

CHARLESTOWN: West Indies “B” scored an historic eight-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands yesterday in their Carib Beer Series regional cricket match at Grove Park in Nevis. It was the first time the young West Indies squad beat a regional side. The team’s past victories have been against Kenya this year and Bangladesh in 2002. Needing 57 to win after tea, the West Indies “B” scored 59 for two.

Jason Haynes was caught off Adam Sanford for three. Shawn Findlay was leg before wicket for two. But Danza Hyatt (22) and Ryan Ramdass (30) steered their team to victory. The Leewards team was dismissed for 224 in its second innings, having scored just 171 in their first innings in reply to the 339 first innings score of the West Indies “B.” Leeward Islands batsmen Carl Tuckett and Tonito Willett got good starts but could not continue while Virgil Browne had a knock of 33. West Indies “B” plays defending champions Barbados in the tournament’s fourth round starting Friday while the Leewards take on Guyana.
