Mucurapo Senior slam Grande 39-9
DEFENDING British Gas Secondary Schools Netball League champions Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive crushed East zone winners Sangre Grande Educational Institute 39-9 to remain on course to keep their title in this year’s series. Monday’s Group “B” match at the Arima Enclosure court was over as a contest from the second period when the Mucurapo girls extended their 9-3 first quarter lead to 20-5. The champions held their opponents to a solitary goal in the third stanza which they led 29-6, and any faint hope of a revival the Grande girls held was grounded out in the final period which Mucurapo outscored them 10-3.
National Under-16 goal-shoot Afeisha Noel scored 35 of 49 attempts and goal-attack Akeisha Mark had four goals from 17 for Mucurapo, while Murlin Paul had three of seven, Ayanne Archie sunk three of six and Angel Ottley got three of three for ‘Grande. The Easterners got one back on the North in Group “A” action, however, as Toco Composite handed Success/Laventille Composite their first defeat 20-13, to put themselves in with a chance of qualifying for the finals. After leading 4-3 at the end of the first stanza, the Toco lasses went to the halftime break 9-7 ahead, and they extended their lead to 15-11 at the end of third period. Goal-shoot Ronalda Lovelace led the Easterners with 15 goals from 27 attempts and goal-attack Tracey Courtney got five of nine, while Teneisha Price scored five of 15 and Ghaaliya O’Brien netted eight of 23 for Success/Laventille.
