CFC n-ballers shock Army

CARIBBEAN Facilities Company (CFC) scored a stunning 48-46 victory over defending  All Sectors Netball League queens Defence Force in their Championship Division match at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua. The teams played to a 12-12 first quarter tie in Saturday’s match, but CFC went ahead 23-18 at the end of the half and never relinquished their grasp on the match despite a furious third and fourth quarter attempt by the Army-Coast Guard women.

The champions poured it on in the third period and outscored CFC 12-8 but trailed by one goal — 31-30 at the end of the third, and despite all they could muster, CFC matched them in the final stanza to hold on for the victory. National goal-shoot Janelle Barker, in the goal-attack position for the match,  scored 33 goals from 42 attempts, while Raquel Russell had 15 of 22 for CFC. For Defence Force,  Dianna Pierre scored 22 of 34 attempts, Anastascia Wilson had 16 of 18 and Lystra “Twinkletoes” Zamore registered eight of 12. In the other match in the same division, Police clobbered Fire 44-28, after being held 808 at the end of the opening stanza. The Fire women were still in the game at the half, trailing 17-15, but slipped to 28-21 at the close of the third period, and were blown away 16-7 in the fourth.

Donna Charles scored 21 of 33 attempts, Beverly Hernandez 14 of 17 and Euphemia Huggins, nine of 12, for the Policewomen. For Fire Nina Jordan scored four goals from 16 attempts and Simone Morgan had 24 from 44. Police remained unbeaten after three matches in the inaugural Retro Division contested on Monday with a 34-26 victory over Avengers. Beverly Rodgers led the Policewomen with 25 goals from 29 attempts while Lynette Duncan got nine of 17.  Lystra Lewis-Brown had 17 goals, Donna Thomas seven and Maryon Mitchell two for Avengers.
