Persad (7/4) stars for Presentation

LEG-SPINNER Vinode Persad with figures of 7/4 starred on the opening day of the PowerGen Secondary Schools cricket league last week. Persad playing for Presentation College, San Fernando grabbed seven wickets for just four runs against Cowen Hamilton who surrendered for 71 batting first in the South/Central division. Presentation in reply were 54/3 when rain intervened at Union Hall and the match was deemed abandoned. In the second round last weekend Persad was again the destroyer but his team still went under on first innings to Union Claxton Bay at Union Hall. Presentation College batted first and scored 123 with Clint Legal getting 41. Union Claxton Bay in reply reached 155/8 declared with Persad taking 5/43. Batting a second time Presentation were 35/2 when the game ended in a draw.

After two rounds Presentation College are on 10 points — 21 adrift of leaders Presentation College Chaguanas who as usual has been dominating the league. They have so far taken both their clashes on first innings. Stars of the tournament so far for Presentation have been West Indies Youth team spinner Kavesh Kantasingh with 11 wickets and Dillon Rampersad who has scored two half centuries. In the North/East Zone, Queen’s Royal College lead with 34 points after two rounds, after winning both games on first innings. Justin Galen has been the star of the QRC show with 10 wickets and a score of 39 runs.
