Central Sports, Merryboys fight for supremacy

Tile It Central Sports will come up against Ceramic Merryboys in the fifth round of the Carib Sunday League cricket series today at Presentation College, Chaguanas.

Both teams are fighting to get the top two places in Group “A”. Merryboys have so far collected nine points from four matches and are in second place behind leaders Comet who have 12 points. Tile It Central Sports are now finding their way in the tournament and have recorded two wins from their four matches. They suffered a humiliating loss to new-comers Las Lomas in the third round and will be going all out to stop Merryboys. Leaders Comet come up against Police Sports and only rain can hamper their chances of maintaining the top spot in the group. Former national player Suruj Ragoonath who missed last weekend matches will be playing for the Central giants today.

Queen’s Park who have played well with three wins so far will travel east to play Moosai’s Sports at Honeymoon Park. Moosai’s have struggled this season and are yet to win a point. Queen’s Park although missing a number of players on national duty will still start as favourites to come away with the three points. In Group “B”, there is a four-way tie for first place with W Connection Wanderers, Clico Preysal, PowerGen and First Citizens Clarke Road all on nine points after four rounds. At the end of today’s matches the situation may remain the same as all four teams will start favourites in their respective outings. Wanderers play lowly Mayo, PowerGen tackle Couva, Preysal oppose winless Green Arrow and Clarke Road take on Munroe Road at Wilson Road. This season the teams are vying for a first prize of $30,000.
