More police than patrons at Youthfest
Police outnumbered patrons in the early stages of the Coca-Cola Youthfest at the Queen’s Park Savannah last evening.
The event was hosted by Randy Glasgow Produ-ctions in collaboration with 96.1 We FM. Among the bands carded to perform at the annual event were Machel Montano and Xtatik, Invazion, Surface, Imij & Co., Krosfyah, Tripple X, Asylum, Pure Energy and Made in Trinidad along with 15 new artistes and five sound systems.
Before the start of the event Randy Glasgow could be seen repeatedly checking on the level of security at all entrances and checkpoints. During an energetic performance by the band Caution with lead singer Konata Alleyne, a large gathering of Special Reserve Police (SRP) officers entered the backstage area. No longer than 15 minutes later a group of heavily armed Guard and Emergency Branch police officers of similar size accompanied the SRPs before dispersing to strategic positions around the enclosure.
