Mucurapo Senior, Junior in Final Four

DEFENDING British Gas Netball League princesses Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive cruised into this year’s final four, drubbing Diego Martin Junior Secondary 43-8 in action at the Jean Pierre Sports. The match was over as a contest from the first period, at the end of which the champions led 11-0. At the half the advantage ballooned to 23-3 and 31-4 at the three-quarter stanza. National under-17 goal-shoot Afeisha Noel netted 29 goals from 45 attempts and Akisha Mark had 14 of 24 for Mucurapo, while Asha McDowell got six of eight attempts and Onika Borel, two of six for Diego. And sister school Mucurapo Junior Secondary clinched Group “A” with a 24-16 victory over northern counterparts Success/Laventille Composite, to join them with maximum ten points from their five matches.

After being held 4-4 at the end of the first stage, goal-attack and Under-17 star Nariba Grant led her team to victory scoring 17 goals from 25 attempts, while Anoula Camejo got seven from 12 for the Mucurapo girls  who led 12-7 at the half and 19-13 at the third period. Teneisha Prince scored seven goals from 15 attempts and Ghaaliya O’Brien nine of 18 for Success/Laventille. Toco Composite (East), 24-20 winners over Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive (South), will join the Mucurapo teams in the final four. Toco led all the way 6-4, 16-10, 19-18 at the quarter stages, with Zola Modest scoring nine of 12 attempts and Ronalda Lovelace, 15 of 26. Arleena Archer scored 16 of 22 and Elizha Bass four of 13 for the Sando girls. But today’s match between South West winners Fyzabad Composite and East champs Sangre Grande Educational Institute will determine which team gets the final place. The odds favour Grande, as Fyzo must win by at least 17 clear goals if they are to advance.
