Belmont man shot in failed kidnap attempt

A Belmont man is now recuperating at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital from gunshot wounds to his buttocks following a failed abduction attempt, which started in the Belmont area yesterday morning and ended in San Juan.

According to information, Sheldon Hosein was abducted by four men and pushed in a car in Belmont. The men then sped through the back roads, but on reaching San Juan, Hosein jumped out of the car and ran into a house screaming for help. The angry kidnappers shot him twice in the buttocks. The injured man contacted the Belmont police who responded and took him to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was warded under heavy police guard up to press time. Cpl Edwards and Constable Jodha are investigating the incident. In an unrelated matter, officers of the Belmont police are also searching for two men who robbed a PH taxi driver of his car and who then shot at police on Sunday night.

According to reports, Joseph Pierre, 52, was plying his car for hire between Port-of-Spain and Gonzales, when two men boarded the car and asked to be taken to Cascade. On reaching the St Ann’s Roundabout, the men ordered Pierre at gunpoint to turn into the Lady Young Road. At the entrance to the Hilton Trinidad, the men ordered Pierre out the car. At the same time, however, a police patrol was passing and a high speed chase and shootout ensued. Police eventually lost sight of the car in Barataria. Cpl Jones is investigating.
