Radio stations share NBN broadcast rights

THE NATIONAL Broadcasting Network (NBN), which has secured broadcast rights to all of the National Carnival Commission (NCC) events, has resold rights to other radio stations.

This is a departure from previous years when the rights to events produced by the various interest groups were all assigned to the NCC which then sought to resell. In an official statement, NBN explained: “NBN made its offer, which has been described as a very good one, taking into consideration the need for owners of rights to be fairly paid for their property. All interest groups have indicated support for the NBN offer which they felt was a very good deal.”

According to the statement, the company felt broadcast opportunities should be widened by involving more radio companies, given the national scope of Carnival. “We felt that Carnival needed wider exposure. It is our national festival,” said NBN’s Ag chief executive officer, Dominic Beaubrun. “So far, we have resold rights to a few other media houses.” Asked whether television rights were also being shared, Beaubrun said because of the nature of the television product, TTT would hold on to exclusive rights for coverage of key NCC events.
