Ruling hailed
GENERAL SECRETARY of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS), Sat Maharaj, yesterday hailed a High Court ruling which said there was discrimination in the denial of a radio licence to the Maha Sabha.
Maharaj told reporters that the judgment confirms his “long-term mantra lamenting discrimination.” “We have a free and fearless legal system. It’s not so much about getting a radio licence, but rather equality of treatment. Attorney-at-law Anand Ramlogan said Cabinet’s refusal to grant a radio licence to the Maha Sabha amounted to a constructive refusal and was a prima facie case of unequal treatment and the judgment was “a landmark judgment which benefits all in the society. Both men stated that in a civilised society, Government should respond accordingly to the ruling of the court.
