Calypsonian robbed of jewelry
AN Antiguan calypsonian who is in Trinidad performing for the Carnival season, was robbed of a quantity of jewelry early yesterday morning. Reports revealed Shawn Ryan, 27, known in the calypso world as “Wansky,” secured his apartment at Mathurin Street, Woodbrook, on Saturday and left the premises. He returned at 3.30 am yesterday and discovered the apartment broken into and ransacked.
A check revealed five gold rings valued $10,000, one gold ID band valued US$4,000, one passport and a quantity of cologne, missing. Woodbrook police officers were contacted and a party of officers led by Sgt Valentine Millette, Cpls Reuben Alleyne and Rattan responded to the report. Checks revealed entry to the apartment was gained by breaking open a door on the western side of the building. The calypsonian was interviewed by the police and he gave a description of his jewelry. Calpsonian Wansky’s big hit last year was “Chi Chi Man,” which caused controversy. Investigations are continuing.
