SuperBlue to be honoured at ‘Pan-O-Brass’
Austin “SuperBlue” Lyons will be especially honoured tonight by the organisers of the annual Customs Boys Carnival fete during tonight’s “Pan-O-Brass” event, which takes place at the PSA Grounds in St. James.
Today has been declared “Blue Day,” according to Dawad Phillip, public relations manager of this year’s Customs Boys fete, and he has asked the public to wear something blue as homage is paid to Superblue.
In Superblue’s 24-year stage history, he has copped the Road March title on eight occasions with hits such as “Soca Baptist,” “Ethel,” “Rebecca,” “Get Something and Wave,” “Jab Jab,” “Bacchanal Time,” “Signal To Lara” and “Pump It Up” (in a tie). The Soca bard has also captured the International Soca Monarch title six times with songs: “Bacchanal Time,” “Flag Party,” “Bounce,” “Barbara” (tied), “Ato” and “Pump Up.”
Outside of these hits, Superblue has given the country other hits like “Unknown Band,” “Fete,” “The Swing,” “Retreat,” “Lucy” and “Superman.” The musical diet for the 41st staging of Customs Boys Pan-O-Brass-Pan tonight comprises Machel Montano and his Marching Band, Roy Cape All Stars, Traffik, Atlantik, Blue Ventures, Invazion, Bunji and Asylum and Maximus Dan among a host of other stars.
