Ponder this

Profound but perhaps shallow.

Who am I? Where am I? What am I? Questions follow.

The simple “Who am I” is not determined by mere name, though essential, but attributes not yet apparent.

“Where” not merely location, but also status, life journey, and much more.

“What” gets more complicated.

“Man, know thyself” is often barely considered yet we argue about supremacy of ancestry, roots, history.

“Does man not consider what he emits?” Quran.

On what is based our arrogance and haughtiness?

History fascinates but we (involuntarily) determine our future.

“ ’Tis all a checkerboard of nights and days,

Where destiny with men for pieces plays.

Hither and thither moves and mates and slays,

And one by one back in the closet lays.”

Omar Khayyam.
