Ash Wednesday cool down now at Las Cuevas
The annual Ash Wednesday cool-down has been moved from Manzanilla to Las Cuevas.
Tony Phillips, pioneer of the “Cool Down” said that the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation did not approve his application to have the annual cool down at Manzanilla. However, another organisation, run by a councillor and a businessman have been given approval from the Sangre Grande Corporation to use the Manzanilla venue. Phillips said all the previous sponsors like Carib, Pepsi and Tidco will continue sponsorship of the event at the new venue — Las Cuevas.
Due to the growth of the very popular event Phillips said the facilities at the Manzanilla resort are inadequate for the anticipated crowd and the 15 percent of tourists who come to the venue on Ash Wednesday. Phillips said he had made numerous complaints, verbally and in writing, to the agents involved, and to date nothing has been done. “I feel very sad to leave Manzanilla, but the show must go on,” declared Phillips.
