Arima man charged with murder

A 33-year-old man will appear before an Arima magistrate today charged with the stabbing death of O’Neil Meloney. The body of Meloney, 29, was discovered in bushes behind the Arima Senior Comprehensive School on Ash Wednesday. Meloney was stabbed seven times in the back and once in the chest.

A post-mortem by Dr Hughvon Des Vignes at the Forensic Science Centre revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage consistent with stab wounds. Police officers led by Inspector Lester Hutchins, Ag Inspector Johnny Abraham and Cpl Eric Parks of Northern Division, carried out extensive investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect. The man was detained on Thursday and on Friday, Ag Director of Public Prosecutions Carla Brown Antoine, gave instructions to the police to charge him with murder.
