Ganja in toddler’s tote bag

A 42-year-old Morvant woman will appear in the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court today charged with possession of 2.5 kilogrammes of compressed marijuana. The illicit drugs were allegedly being carried by a three-year-old when she disembarked the inter-island ferry in Tobago on Friday night. A Mt St George man who was reportedly shot by a Port security guard when he intervened, will also appear in court on charges arising out of the incident. The man was said to be in stable condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hos-pital following surgery.

Another man who was also reportedly shot during the incident, was also resting comfortably at hospital. Charges were laid by Estate Constable Leslie Grant, of the Port Security Unit. The woman and the toddler were reportedly intercepted on the Scarborough Port shortly after they came off the MV Beauport around 8 pm on Friday. The marijuana was allegedly seized from a tote-bag being carried by the youngster. It is alleged that a man intervened and attempted to grab the tote-bag and was shot in the leg by a female security guard. The bullet reportedly exited the man’s leg and struck a bystander.
