Piracy harms our artistes

THE EDITOR: I real vex. We went to Movietowne this weekend to see Calypso Dreams. There was a man in the cinema sitting in a seat filming the movie with a video camera. I went over and asked him if he thought what he was doing would help the calypsonians; he ignored me.

I went to the management (who thanked me for reporting the incident) and they dealt with the offender immediately. While it is against the law to make illegal copies of any movie or music, I find it particularly upsetting that one of us would choose to pirate local work that could put some change in the pockets of our own artistes. The movie is registered with COTT who would make sure that money reaches the right people. Calypso Dreams is very good; I hope it comes back soon to local cinemas so that everyone can see it.
