UWI student raped in Curepe

THREE first year University of the West Indies students were robbed and one was raped on Tuesday night while studying for upcoming semester exams at their Lyndon Street, Curepe home. According to reports, at around 11 pm the students were studying with their front door open when three armed men entered and announced a hold-up.

The men proceeded to rob them of an undisclosed amount of cash, before a 22-year-old student was taken to another room where she was raped. The men then fled the scene and the students, all female, made a report to the St Joseph Police Station. Hospital tests confirmed the 22-year-old student was sexually assaulted. A futile search was also made of the area. Officers at the St Joseph Police Station criticised the students for leaving their door open in light of recent reports of rapes by either a serial rapist or a group of men patrolling the area. That area, located on the boundary of the UWI campus in St Augustine, is known to house many students from all over the Caribbean. WPC Lisa Simon visited the scene and is investigating.
