Commandant: Cadet Force for every school
THE GOAL of the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force is to establish a Cadet Force in every secondary school in the country, according to Commandant, Colonel Edison N Isaac during his address at a church parade yesterday. The service, which commemorated the 94th anniversary of the Cadet Force, was held at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Hart Street, Port-of-Spain. The Colonel said he knew that there were many challenges facing the Force but felt confident that its young members, with guidance from the older and more experienced heads, would overcome those challenges.
He expressed his gratitude for the support given to the Cadet Force by family members, friends and well-wishers and publicly congratulated Minister of National Security Senator Martin Joseph for his continued interest in the Cadets. Joseph and his wife, Claire, were in attendance. Captain Canon Edwin Primus, who officiated in the church service, implored the young Cadets to make a change in Trinidad and Tobago by putting “forth the fruit that is in you”. He added that financial support was one of the major needs of the Cadets and urged the business community to do whatever it could to assist. The parade, commanded by Major Louis Driscoll, comprised six companies of Cadets from throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
Prior to the church service, the young men and women aligned themselves on Hart Street and subsequently marched into the cathedral at the order of their superiors. The many talents of the youngsters were showcased as they sang, provided musical accompaniment for the congregation and lead out in prayers. During a spicy rendition of “He’s got the whole world” by Tobago’s Sixth Battalion Choir, Isaac could not resist the urge to join in to sing a verse. Following the service, the Cadets marched to the St Mary’s College Ground, Serpentine Road and were later treated to brunch at the Officers’ Mess in St James.
