‘Granny’ celebrates 105th birthday
The children of Jane Irene Edwards had everything to smile about on International Women’s Day as their mother celebrated her 105th birthday. Edwards, mother-in-law of the famous pan pioneer Elliot “Ellie” Mannette, has four children, 22 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Grace Joseph, one of Edwards’ daughters, described her as a loving mother who was always humble and who never made a fuss about anything. She ascribes these attributes to her mother’s long life. At the age of 105, Edwards has near perfect vision. “The only thing about her is that she cannot hear very well,” said Joseph. Edwards now resides at the L’Hospice on Observatory Street in Port-of-Spain.
