Cop shot in the mouth
A policeman responding to a report at Western Main Road, St James, yesterday evening is today in a critical condition, awaiting surgery at Ward 13 of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being shot through the mouth by a fleeing bandit. According to reports, at around 4 pm Cpl Bean Davidson, 43, attached to the St James Police Station was on enquiries at Ambassador Studio on Western Main Road, St James, when he responded to reports of a robbery. The bandits were walking along the WMR when the manager of the studio called out to the cops and pointed the men out. A short chase ensued and the men ran into different directions. One ran into Agra Street where he was confronted by Davidson. The bandit shot the cop at point blank range and the bullet entered his mouth and remains lodged in his face.
The bleeding cop collapsed and was rushed to the Cocorite Seventh Day hospital, before being transferred to the PoSGH. The area was quickly cordoned off by officers who were in the vicinity of the shooting. A 23-year-old man with Browning semi-automatic .22 revolver with four live rounds of ammunition was held. The man is currently in police custody and is assisting them with their investigation. A bag with some of the money taken from the studio was also recovered. St James police are investigating.
