HOSPITALS READY FOR SHUTDOWN

The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) said “a plan is in place” for today’s shutdown of health facilities by its workers. NWRHA corporate communi-cations manager Charmaine Codrington yesterday could not provide details of the plan but said it would ensure patients received treatment. Speaking to protesting NWRHA workers, First vice president of the PSA Stephen Thomas yesterday announced that the Arima Health Facility, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Port-of-Spain General Hospital, St James Medical Complex, would be shut down until the NWRHA addressed their concerns.

Commenting on the talks which took place between PSA epresentatives led by Thomas and the management of the NWRHA, Codrington said the union “laid on the table what they are looking for.” She said a response to some areas of concern was already “put in train.” The NWRHA management has scheduled a meeting with workers on Wednesday at 2pm.
