‘I want justice’
Saul Armstrong, 48, an American of Nevada, Las Vegas, arrived in the country on Tuesday — five days after his wife’s tragic death and is expected to leave for home tomorrow. Jana was the front seat passenger in a Mercedes Benz luxury sedan which crashed into a light pole last week Friday, killing her instantly.
Armstrong told Newsday yesterday that he is of the view that his wife’s life was placed at risk on the night that she was killed.
He even accused local police of failing to administer a breathalyser test on the driver of the car who at the time was taking his wife Jana Armstrong to her home.
According to Armstrong, his wife arrived in Trinidad and Tobago eight days before she was killed and met with two men to discuss a business deal.
He said that hours before his wife was killed, she texted him to inform him that she was at the 51 Degrees night club in company with a local businessman. According to Armstrong she even texted him at another point last Friday to state that she was having a good time.
He said that the next day which was last Friday when he did not hear from his wife he contacted one of her friends in Trinidad who he identified only as Zoe and she told him that Jana had been killed in an accident.
According to Armstrong, he was dumbstruck when told of his wife’s death.
He said his wife of eight years informed him that she was given a business proposition to come to Trinidad to provide female dancers for a night club which is to open shortly.
“I am still in a daze over what happened. But one thing I know for sure is that my wife did not have to die at such a young age and I am in the process of doing my own investigations as I need justice to take place,” Armstrong said.
The grieving man said that he tried to contact relatives of the driver of the sedan and even the driver himself, for assistance in offsetting the cost of the funeral and cremation of his wife, which cost US$3,000, but the driver
who caused the crash, did not respond.
“I called the driver of the car and even his relatives for assistance in bearing the cost for the funeral but I got no response,” Armstrong said. He said that he will be lobbying American Senators to pressure the TT Government to ensure the investigations into his wife’s death are not swept under the proverbial carpet.
Following a brief service at Clark and Battoo’s Funeral Home at Tragarete Road, Port-of-Spain Jana Armstrong was cremated at Long Circular, St James. The driver of the car remains warded at a medical institution.
