ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

THE EDITOR: From a survey I did, it was revealed that some students do not know, or have a clue about their ethical responsibilities as students. Apart from this fact, some students indicated that they do not have a conscience. If this is the case, then surely some students will not be able to determine right from wrong. Thus, in such a predicament, society is heading for destruction. No wonder, some youths have gone down the crooked path. Others are simply inattentive in the classroom, disrespectful to teachers, their elders, and their parents.

Certainly these youths have lost a rational sense of direction. No longer do they engage in sporting activities and other activities that are beneficial to their development. Instead they are concerned with adult activities rather than activities concomitant with their age. The solution to this revelation is to have social responsibility programmes in schools, coupled with competent counsellors, since too many parents in society are not doing a good job with respect to the socialisation of their children. Indeed, the time is long past for our cultural institutions to get together for the good of the nation.
