Khan: Govt fine-tuning overpass design
WORKS and Transport Minister Franklyn Khan revealed that he will soon approach Cabinet for funding on a proposed highway overpass at the intersection of the Uriah Butler and Churchill-Roosevelt Highways. Speaking at Thursday’s post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, the Minister said the 2003/2004 Budget “does not have a line item for the overpass.” “We took a policy decision to proceed with the overpass. We have brought back the consultants to fine-tune the design and I will be going to Cabinet when the final designs are fine-tuned. When we get a proper costing, we will go to Cabinet for funding,” the Minister said. The overpass was the brainchild of former UNC Planning and Development Minister John Humphrey, but was never built by the former government.
