ANSA/McAL factory worker dies of heart attack

CHRISTINE Bourne, 42, of Claxton Bay collapsed with a massive heart attack on Thursday night while at work at her Ansa/McAl Chemicals Ltd, North Sea Drive, Couva ‘bleach line’ work station. She later died on arrival at the Couva District Facility. In a  release sent to Newsday, the company said the factory line employee of six years collapsed at the work station and was rushed to the hospital by the Emergency Health Services paramedics, where she died. Autopsy results confirmed death was due to Ischaemia Heart Disease and Hypertension. When contacted, officials at the CDF confirmed the death and said there were lacerations on the woman’s face. Sources at the factory told Newsday that since the death, the facility has been closed.

But when contacted, managing director Derek Decaries explained, “The lacerations was related to when she fell, as you can see the autopsy result confirmed heart attack. Only part of the factory was closed and this was done in an effort to treat workers for trauma and other problems they might have experienced because of the death and what they saw, because we all knew her and were close to her.” He stoutly denied that the death was related in any way to the inhalation of the chemicals. Decaries also extended his condolences to the family and spoke of his company’s intentions to assist in the funeral arrangements.
