Chicken pox suspends South trial
THE trial of three La Romaine men who are charged with wounding and assaulting a Penal grocer had to be postponed yesterday when one of the accused men came down with a suspected case of the highly contagious chicken pox. Madame Justice Alice Yorke-Soo Hon informed jurors in the San Fernando Second Criminal Assizes that Andrew Sookhan, 27, had taken ill and was seeking medical attention.
Sookhan went on trial last week jointly charged with Jason Edwards and Anthony Augustus for allegedly assaulting Doodnath Parmanand with intent to rob him and wounding him with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The three allegedly committed the offences at Parmanand’s wife’s grocery at San Francique Road, Penal, on May 27, 1995.
