$25,000 bail for teen charged with killing

A LAVENTILLE teenager, who was on Tuesday committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the Assizes for manslaughter, was granted bail in the sum of $25,000. Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against Shane Daniel, 18, of Lodge Place, East Dry River, Laventille. Daniel was charged with the April 23, 2003, unlawful killing of his friend, Richard Miguel Magloire. The charge was laid by Cpl Rueben Alleyne of the Woodbrook CID. Magloire, 14, of Rose Hill, Laventille Road, was shot in his back and died on his way to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Police prosecutor Acting Insp Kenneth Cordner decided to close the case after several attempts to get the last witness, Keon King, to come to court to give evidence.
A warrant had been issued for his arrest but King had managed to elude the execution of the warrant. The prosecution had no objections to Daniel’s mother taking her son’s bail because he (Daniel) had religiously attended all his hearings.
