New crime plan for Tobago

A new crime plan has been put in to place that is unique for Tobago. According to ACP East Tobago Deochan Gosein, “because Tobago is a tourist destination that caters for sand, sea and the others, it is unique and we had to put a special crime plan in place with the Old Grange area as one of our main focuses. “While I cannot give details of the plans  from which we have already been getting fantastic results, one of the problems we faced with crimes against tourists is that most of the time the victim reports the matter on the eve of their departure  and the litigants use all the time-wasting methods to cripple the system. Sometimes we were even forced to house the victims at exorbitant costs to the State.

“What we have now are magistrates on stand-by 24 hours everyday. Further, we now have the facility where statements or depositions can be taken and used in the courts after the victims have left the shores.” In recent months there has been an increase in crime, especially against tourists visiting the island. The ACP added: “The problem that is now a worldwide phenomena is that males don’t want to work and are attracted to the crime world, while the women don’t want salaried men but men who can provide enormous amounts of money at anytime to facilitate their every desire.” The ACP ended by saying that his officers are quite aware of the hot spots in Tobago and will be dealing with the criminal elements on the island to make it safe for everyone.
