UNC vs Baboolal Round Two
SENATORS will wait to see whether sparks will fly between Senate President Dr Linda Baboolal and the Opposition UNC when the Upper House sits on Wednesday at 1.30 pm. At last Tuesday’s sitting, the Opposition walked out after Baboolal suspended UNC Senator Robin Montano. Montano had charged that Baboolal was “protecting the government” and UNC chairman Wade Mark vowed that the UNC would be waging war against Baboolal until she ceases such actions. Prior to the Opposition walkout, Mark served notice on the Senate President that a no-confidence motion would be filed against her.
Mark has questions for Trade Minister Ken Valley, Foreign Affairs Minister Knowlson Gift and Works Minister Franklyn Khan about the purchase of a mobile harbour crane by PLIPDECO, efforts to conclude a Trinidad and Tobago/Barbados fishing agreement and the proposed Uriah Butler-Churchill Roosevelt interchange. UNC Senator Sadiq Baksh will ask Attorney-General John Jeremie to give a breakdown of monies paid to Canadian forensic investigator Bob Lindquist or companies owned or affiliated to him from the date he was first engaged to December 31, 2003. Debate will continue on legislation to amend the Extradition (Commonwealth and Foreign Territories) Act 1985 which was laid in the Senate by Gift. In presenting the legislation, Gift said Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela were currently working on an extradition treaty.
