South businessman robbed of $90,000 cash

A SAN FERNANDO businessman was yesterday robbed of $90,000 in front of Scotia bank’s Marabella branch as he was about to deposit the money into his account. Jeremiah Jagger, 56, proprietor of Snack Savers, a wholesale store at Mucurapo Street, San Fernando, told police he was walking to the bank at Allums Shopping Centre, with a bag containing the money at about 2.10 pm.

He said two men, one masked and armed with a gun and the other, who was armed with a knife, approached him. On seeing the bandits, Jagger said he started to run and the men chased after him. As he approached the bank doors, the men pushed him down and grabbed the bag. The bank’s security guard managed to pull Jagger into the bank before any harm could come to him.

The men then ran into a waiting white car, which sped off.  Jagger received minor cuts and bruises to his body and was treated and discharged from San Fernando General Hospital. Newsday understands that the money was to be used as payments owed by Jagger to various suppliers. Marabella police are continuing investigations.
