Student on $40,000 bail for stabbing schoolmate

A 15-YEAR-OLD schoolboy was yesterday placed on $40,000 bail by a San Fernando magistrate before whom the teen appeared charged with allegedly stabbing his schoolmate in the chest last week. Up to yesterday, the victim, who suffered a punctured lung as a result of the stabbing, remained hospitalised. The Form Three pupil of San Fernando East Junior Secon-dary School appeared before deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court charged with wounding Kyle Archibald with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

The youthful accused was not called on to enter a plea since the charge was laid indictably. The accused is being defended by attorney Ian Gray while Cpl Wendell Fernando was court prosecutor. Police alleged that 14-year-old Archibald was stabbed with a knife on the school’s compound last week Thursday during an altercation with another student. Archibald, whose left lung collapsed, remains in stable condition at Ward Three of San Fernando General Hos-pital. The accused, who was charged by PC Fortune, will return to court on April 7.
