Man killed in Central car wreck
One man was killed following an accident in the Central area on Monday night. Dead is Mahendra Holerie of Flemming Street, Laventille. Reports state that Holerie and three others were travelling in a blue Laser car along the Chaguanas Main Road shortly before midnight, when the incident occurred. Riaz Hosein, the driver of the car, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a light pole. Holerie, who was seated in the back seat, died on the spot. The two other passengers, identified as Leo Jeremiah and Denzil Maynard, along with the driver of the car, all received serious injuries.
The injured men were rushed to the Chaguanas Medical Facility and were later transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they remain warded in critical condition. Police said that Maynard is wanted for robbery. Officers of the Chaguanas CID who visited the scene, however, said that they were not sure where the men were headed, and could not say whether they had been involved in any robbery. Up to press time yesterday, officers could not say whether the crashed car was stolen. While medical personnel monitor the conditions of the injured men, officers too await their recovery, saying they are expected to be placed on ID parades. Officers of the Chaguanas CID are continuing investigations.
