Chicken prices to fall
Consumers can now breathe a sigh of relief. Chicken prices will be going down from tomorrow. Chicken parts, relative to supply and demand, will be subjected to an 18 percent decrease. According to the Poultry Association of Trinidad and Tobago, the decision to reduce chicken prices came following a meeting held on Monday among its members.
This move, the association maintained, comes in the wake of threats by the Minister of Consumer Affairs to remove the surcharge on imported chicken, thus opening up the market to foreign competition. However, it maintained that these prices will be subjected to change based on any price increases of grain, as well as supply and demand.
The new prices are as follows:
1. Pluck Shop Depot — live broilers : (wholesale)- $2.45 and (suggested retail)- $2.45 plus $3 pluck and gut.
2. Supermarket (processed chicken) — (wholesale) $4.10 and (suggested retail) — $4.92
3. Restaurant/fast food outlets (empty fryers) — (wholesale) — $11.75 and suggested retail ($14)
