Pregnant woman out on $40,000 bail

A SANTA CRUZ man was denied bail when he appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with possession of a Smith and Wesson firearm and 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition. He was also charged, along with his pregnant common-law wife and another man, for possession of 900 grammes of marijuana. The three entered not guilty pleas.


Wayne Pierre, 34, Marissa Greenidge, 19 and Anthony Messiah, 20, all of Gran Curu-caye Road, River Road, Bourg Mulatresse, Santa Cruz, appeared before Magistrate Avason Quin-lan at the Port-of-Spain Four C Court to answer to the charges. Greenidge and Messiah, who had no antecedents, were each granted bail in the sum of $40,000. 


Pierre, who had three previous convictions for possession of arms and ammunition and robbery, was denied bail and remanded into custody.
The three, who had not yet retained legal counsel, were arrested and charged on Wednesday by an officer attached to the Port-of-Spain CID following the execution of a search warrant at their home. Police prosecutor Sgt Diane Boxhill represented the State. They will re-appear before Quinlan on April 13.
